Abstract

The Internet as we know it today is the result of a continuous activity for improving network communications, end user services, computational processes and also information technology infrastructures. The Internet has become a critical infrastructure for the human-being by offering complex networking services and end-user applications that all together have transformed all aspects, mainly economical, of our lives. Recently, with the advent of new paradigms and the progress in wireless technology, sensor networks and information systems and also the inexorable shift towards everything connected paradigm, first as known as the Internet of Things and lately envisioning into the Internet of Everything, a data-driven society has been created. In a data-driven society, productivity, knowledge, and experience are dependent on increasingly open, dynamic, interdependent and complex Internet services. The challenge for the Internet of the Future design is to build robust enabling technologies, implement and deploy adaptive systems, to create business opportunities considering increasing uncertainties and emergent systemic behaviors where humans and machines seamlessly cooperate.

Abstract

This book is about using the Internet as a teaching tool. It starts with the psychology of the learner and looks at how best to fit technology to the student, rather than the other way around. The authors include leading authorities in many areas of psychology, and the book takes a broad look at learners as people. Thus, it includes a wide range of materials from how the eye ""reads"" moving graphs on a Web page to how people who have never met face-to-face can interact on the Internet and create ""communities"" of learners. The book considers many Internet technologies, but focuses on the Wor

Abstract

This book attacks the often implicit and damaging assumption that 'everyone' is online and that 'everyone' is using online resources within the specified parameters of employers, government and national laws. This book summons a critical Web Studies, asking not only who is using particular applications, but also how and why. This remedial work is required. The concept and label of 'Web 2.0' is part of a wide-ranging suite of assumptions that offer simple answers to difficult questions. The term captures a desire for online collaboration and the sharing of information, performed most visibly th

Abstract

Instructional Design for Web-based Training blends instructional design and development tasks with Web design issues to outline a methodology for creating effective Web-based training (WBT). This book is based on the perspective that effective WBT does not derive solely from the use of Internet technology, but must be founded on proven instructional design techniques as well. Each chapter addresses key implications such interplay can have for a WBT project team, target learners, training goals, and technical possibilities from planning through implementation. This book is intended as a detaile

Abstract

For generations, the map has been central to how societies function all over the world. Cybercartography is a new paradigm for maps and mapping in the information era. Defined as "the organization, presentation, analysis and communication of spatially referenced information on a wide variety of topics of interest to society,? cybercartography is presented in an interactive, dynamic, multisensory format with the use of multimedia and multimodal interfaces. Cybercartography: Theory and Practice examines the major elements of cybercartography and emphasizes the importance of intera

Abstract

In the eye-blink that has elapsed since the turn of the millennium, the lives of those of us who work with information have been utterly transformed. Pretty well all we need to know is on the web; if not today, then tomorrow. It's where we learn and play, shop and do business, keep up with old friends and meet new ones. What makes it possible for us to find the stuff we need to know? Search engines.Search engines-"web dragons?-are the portals through which we access society's treasure trove of information. How do they stack up against librarians, the gatekeepers over centuries past? Wh
